Welcome to our blog. We are Over The Effect, a rock band from Atlanta Georgia. We’re a trio, made up of Ashley Barker on lead vocals and guitars, Aaron Kamphuis on bass on backing vocals (and writing this blog), and Nate Lewin on drums. We started playing together in May of 2012, and have become pretty tight as a unit. We have about 8 songs written and we’re working on getting them recorded and available, and are hoping to start playing some shows and have an EP to release very soon.
We’ve got a wide range of influences and styles between the three of us, and we have some really great stuff in the works. We already have posted two songs to the Over The Effect soundcloud. Go follow us on Twitter and hear the new songs as we get them done, we’re almost done with another one.
We feel that the music that has been coming along lately has become empty and boring. We are proud to say that we record everything as a unit, and we don’t use unnatural pitch correction or a bunch of artificial editing. But at the same time, we want to make the best music that we can. We want to make the best sounding records that we can. We want to make music that moves people, both physically and mentally.
I first met Ashley when he was playing his old band Leidenfrost. I was going to play bass for them, but ended up being hired to help finish an in progress album as an engineer. (Yup, I’m trained audio engineer and own all my own gear. I make our records.) We finished the record but for various reasons Leidenfrost sorta imploded. Ashley and I had become really good friends while working on the project, so we decided that if we could find a drummer, we’d give it a go at another band. I met Nate through somewhere I used to work, and it all kinda fell together. We got together in my studio to jam, and we instantly hit it off, so we have been furiously writing and recording songs. Ashley writes all the lyrics, and then we put everything together as a band. “Little John” is a song that Ashley wrote and we arranged, and “Hourglass” was an instrumental I had lying around. We’re currently working on a song called “Reflection” that we all wrote together, and we hope to have to available to listen to next week sometime.
Our short term goals are to get the best 6 or so songs that we have recorded and use that as a demo that we can use to book shows, as well as sell online and at any shows we’re able to book. Stay in touch – follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, and here to keep up with everything we’re doing.
